I’ve written about Michael Mancienne quite a bit since he returned from Wolves, mainly because I think he’s a really good young prospect and let’s face it, it’s high time Chelsea started to look at the potential they’ve already got at the club for the future.
Anyway, with the European under-21 Championship coming up, Mancienne is hoping to be one of its brightest stars, suggesting “This is a good tournament to show Ancelotti what I can do. I would want to play well in this tournament, even if there hadn’t been a new manager coming in at Chelsea, but obviously having a new boss, you have the chance to impress, so it is important to me.”
The 21 year old, who did manage a few games for us towards the end of the season, is under no illusions it’ll be easy to break into the side but will no doubt make the most of whatever opportunities present themselves, stating “We have a lot of world-class players in front of me at Chelsea so it is a question of being patient. I would love to be playing more games, but I have had a lot of good experiences. I was on the bench for the Champions League semi-final, so I did gain a lot of experience from that. You just have to be patient and bide your time because I don’t think you can break in at a young age at a team such as Chelsea. I just want to take it as it comes over the next year.”
Seems a really grounded lad. Definitely hope we see a lot more of him next season.
